Tipsy Triangles - Falling Gold
Tipsy Triangles - Falling Gold
Back in my University days (not that long ago – I got my degree in metalsmithing and jewelry design by the age of 30) one of the very first pieces I made in metals 1 was a beautiful sterling silver pendant and earring set that featured falling gold leaf foil using the Mokume Gane technique – it was stunning. I have always loved the idea of lightly falling gold flakes – I love the idea of something being frozen in time, un-moveable while also being delicate and graceful and full of motion. I love a good juxtaposition. The Tipsy Triangles in Falling Gold are the elevated version of my first attempt in metals 1.
To make these stunning, asymmetrical beauties I forge the frame from sterling silver wire, solder on jump rings, make the dapps, solder the posts on and then I layer resin and gold colored foil again, and again, and again, and again….seriously, these take a lot of very thin layers of resin to give the effect of falling through space.
The results are spectacular! These are knock your socks off cool!!
These earrings have been coated in a UV resistant resin which will prevent yellowing.
